Pre-admission registration to be online from today

Mumbai: The Mumbai University's pre-admission online registration will commence from today after a fortnight's delay. The new third-party service-provider is ready with the software and the portal will be activated from 10am.

Today is the last day for students to purchase admission forms from individual colleges.

Colleges are ready to admit students for the in-house and minority quota seats once the online registration commences. University registrar M A Khan said the software for the online registration process is ready.

"Since pre-admission online registration is a must, we will have to wait for students to fill it first. Students will have to submit the registration form along with the admission form. We hope the process starts smoothly from Tuesday," said a principal from a college in the western suburbs. Colleges claimed the trend in sale of forms has been almost the same with demand for self-finance courses higher than traditional ones. Forms for courses such as BCom (accounts and finance), BMM, BMS and BCom (banking and insurance) are in great demand, principals claimed.

This year, after a proper tendering process was followed, the university finalised Exxon Automation Pvt Ltd. The Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) has been carrying out the process since 2011, when pre-admission online registration begun.

This year, after the state governments told public universities to invite tenders for online processes and not employ MKCL by default, the university had to float a tender.

The delay was due to the new tendering process.
